THE EXPO PARADES

The 2010 Expo is truly the world’s greatest fair. The Culture and Event Program of the Expo will entertain the millions of visitors. The parade program is a vital component of largest entertainment program ever planned.

 To this date, two parade routes have been planned of up to 2 kilometres duration for the banks of the Yangtze River in Pudong and Puxi. 7 parades a day are planned. It is anticipated that over 200,000 people per day will experience the parades.

 The parades will reflect the Expo theme of ‘Better City – Better Life’ (humankind’s common wish for better living in future urban environments). ‘Smiles From The World – Music Is The Future’ will inspire the parades.

 More than 100 parade elements representing 50 ethnic nationalities will make up a parade which will feature marching bands as well as folk dance and music, floats, street performances, acrobatics and other forms of music and dance. The first parade commences at 10am and the last will be at night. They will last for about one hour. The night parade will be integrated into the daily closing of the Expo Park with fireworks and other grand activities highlighting the best of what cities can offer their citizens.

 There will be optional opportunities to perform in a plaza or square setting in addition to the parade performances.  Expo commences May 1 and runs until October 31, there will be continual pre Expo opening events including parades throughout spring of 2010.

 It is anticipated that marching bands from around the world will wish to represent their country in the Expo parades in Shanghai, enjoy the sightseeing opportunities of Expo has well as taking part in a variety of optional performance and competition oportunities held in the Asia Pacific Region during the Spring and Summer of 2010.
